Quick news flash (no time for more formal write up): We have officially begun monthly meetings which will be held the last tuesday of each month during the evening hours. Location will be announced to group members prior to each meeting.

Welcome to the home page for Tropical Amps! This is a peer support group for amputees of all types.

I am Jerry Sievers, a left AK since 2000. I'm also a proud member of the ACA (Amputee Coalition of America). They have provided me with peer support training and certification plus many other resources and contacts. I wish to be a great support group leader and feel that it is now time for me to "give something back" to the community.

The target geographic area to be served is Miami Florida including all of Dade county. Amputees from Broward County in places such as Fort Lauderdale are of course also welcome if they are willing to make the trip down here.

I have two offers already from places that are willing to host our meetings. Both are non-clinical settings. I'd like to follow in the footsteps of other well established support groups and hold a variety of events to keep things interesting.

New amputees as well as those having lived with limb loss for any length of time are welcome. Family members and caregivers will also be welcome to attend some of the meetings/events.

I am currently seeking interested persons and will be setting the meeting date/location soon for the group. the initial plan is to have the meetings at different places to help insure that they're convenient to all members. Soon after, we'll be seeking a permanent location for the monthly meetings.

Prosthetics and Physical Therapy practitioners will be invited to serve as featured guest speakers at certain meetings. Membership of the group will be involved in shaping the meeting agendas.
